Research Award Program
The New England Section of the American Urological Association, in a continuing effort to further its mission in the area of research and education, is offering two research awards that will be given to members or candidate-members of the New England Section of the AUA. Awards of up to $10,000 are available.
The first Award is a Post Residency Research Grant. Applicants must be no more than 10 years post-residency and must be serving as fellows or junior faculty. Funds are to be used to support a research program in basic or clinical sciences related to Urology.
The next Award is a Practicing Urologist Research Award. Applicants must be from local or community-based hospitals and must be engaged in clinical or quality improvement research in the field of Urology.

Selection Procedure
Applications for the Post Residency Research Grant and Practicing Urologist Research Award will be reviewed by the Awards Committee. The winner will be expected to be in attendance at the President’s Banquet at the New England Section Annual Meeting at the Rio Mar Beach Resort & Spa in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico, on September 27, 2008, to receive his/her award. The Section will offer the award winner(s) complimentary registration for the 2008 Annual Meeting.

Research Grants

Contribution that it may make to the understanding of a particular disease or problem |

Will the project answer a specific hypothesis or will it set the basis for future application in urological research. Will it provide the basis for the applicant to obtain grant funding from other agencies later on? |

Is the environment appropriate for conduction of the project? |
Disbursements Of Funds for 2008-2009
| 1. |
Monies for the Post Residency Research Grant will be paid directly to applicant’s designated institution. Monies for the Practicing Urologist Research Award can be paid either to an institution or an individual. Funds will be disbursed on January 1, 2009, and are to be used in the calendar year. |

Recipients of the awards will be expected to provide the New England Section Board of Directors with a written update on how the funds are being used at both the Board’s midyear meeting, held in the spring, and at the annual meeting in the fall. |

The New England Section of the AUA does not withhold taxes from research awards. |
Financing of indirect costs is not included in the New England Section Awards programs.
Presentations And Publications
Any presentation or publication arising from work sponsored totally or partially by the New England Section should acknowledge such support.
Award recipients will be asked to make a presentation to the annual meeting of the New England Section in the year following the completion of their award.
