Robotic Ureterocalycostomy

Joseph Wagner, MD, Jeffery Cohen, MD.
Connecticut Surgical Group, Hartford, CT, USA.

Introduction:
Ureterocalycostomy can be a good surgical option for patients with a ureteropelvic junction obstruction that have thin renal parenchyma and an intrarenal pelvis.
Materials and Methods: A patient who had undergone and open nephrolithotomy and attempted UPJ repair presented with stones, persistent flank pain, thin renal parenchyma, worsening renal function, and an intrarenal pelvis. Robotic ureterocalycostomy was performed.
Results: Operative and perioperative course was uneventful.
Conclusions: The 3-D vision and suturing capabilities of robotic assisted laparoscopic surgery are well-suited for performing ureterocalycostomy.
