Robot Assisted Extraperitoneal Radical Prostatectomy

Joseph Wagner, MD.
Connecticut Surgical Group, Hartford, CT, USA.

Introduction:
Radical cystoprostatectomy remains the gold standard of treatment for men with muscle invasive bladder cancer. Neobladder diversion offers patients improved quality of life. Laparoscopic techniques offer patients decreased blood loss and improved convalescence.
Materials and Methods: 3 patients with appropriate indications for radical cystoprostatectomy and neobladder underwent robotic radical cystoprostatectomies and neobladder at our institution this year. Our technique and outcomes are reviewed.
Results: All patients underwent a successful procedure without significant postoperative complications.
Conclusions: Robotic cystoprostatectomy and neobladder is a viable treatment option for patients requiring the procedure.
